Your Pornography Use: You Need to Know Your Stats
Record-keeping about your pornography use is a key part of getting on top of it. The more data you have measuring pornography use, the more you’re able to understand – and beat it.

An everyday experience
Porn is an everyday experience for many men. It becomes habitual; it can feel like you don’t really make a choice about whether to use it or not. Then, after you have used pornography, you can easily feel terrible about it. This too has become just an everyday feeling for you.
How big is the problem?
If you’re like many men, you don’t really have a good idea about how often you use pornography nor how long you use it for. A key strategy for making changes about anything is to find out exactly how big the problem is. For using pornography, you need to get clear about exactly how often you do it, and how long you do it for.
My suggestion? Even if you aren’t looking to give up pornography yet, find a way to quantify the problem by keeping a record of your pornography usage.
The part it plays in your life
If you can understand how often you’re using pornography and how long it takes, you might get a clearer indication of the part that it plays in your life. You might be surprised by how little you do it, or, you might be surprised about how many hours you actually sink into it. Either way, after keeping a record for a while you will be better informed. Measuring pornography use is pretty easy – and will tell you a lot.
Keep a visible record
If you have made the choice to stop using pornography, this same approach can also help you stay away. I recommend that you keep a visible record of how long it’s been since you’ve used pornography. Keep a calendar that you keep on the wall that shows how long your run of not using pornography has been. If you are seeking to stop using pornography, are you also trying to stop masturbating as well?
The more that you don’t use it, the longer your run is and the less likely you are willing to break it.
Building understanding, building success
Whether you have decided to stop using pornography now or you haven’t, some simple record-keeping helps. This way, you get to understand what’s actually going on. Either way, that helps because it gives you more information.
